Coop is a Queensland based interior design firm, specialising in bespoke residential and commercial interiors. Coop approaches each project without preconception and judgement, resulting in a varied portfolio of projects, containing a high level of detail. In contrast to emphasising current trends, the design team focusses on generating an appropriate response to each project and individual.

RESIDENTIAL

• VICTORIA HOUSE
  Title— Victoria House Location— Brisbane, Queensland Description— With a contemporary Owen and Vokes renovation, this family home was finished with a combination of new and old. Creating a welcoming environment that will adapt with the family’s needs and lifestyle.
• VILLA MARGARET
  Title— Villa Margaret Location— Mt Tambourine, Queensland Description— This unique art deco mountain property reflects the style and sophistication of its original time. The client’s requirements were for a functional kitchen to satisfy the family of cooks whilst still maintaining the slenderness of the art deco scale and a highly finished interior. There was a conscious decision to maintain and restore most of the original fittings giving the house a truly unique presence. PUSH were the architects for the renovation.
• STRADBROKE HOUSE
  Title— Stradbroke House Location— North Stradbroke Island, Queensland Description— Collaboration with Quirk architecture
• PADDINGTON HOUSE
  Title— Paddington House Location— Brisbane, Queensland Description— The renovation of this Queenslander home was to incorporate unique modern and bold patterns, whilst still maintaining some of the original architecture. Cottee Parker were the architects for the renovation of this home.
• SKYLINE APARTMENT
  Title— Skyline Apartment Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— The glamorous decor of this 3 bedroom apartment in the Skyline Building reflects the clients’ lifestyle. The peaceful muted colour palette allows the spectacular river and city views to enter the living room unobstructed.
• MACROSSAN RESIDENCES
  Title— Macrossan Residences Location— Brisbane, Queensland Description— This full floor display apartment sits high in the Brisbane skyline. The styling portrays a glamorous and unique lifestyle. Furniture and decorations from various decades combine to create a contemporary home appealing to a broad market.
• RICHMOND HOUSE
  Title— Richmond House Location— Brisbane, Queensland
• NEULANS HOUSE
  Title— Neulans House Location— Indooroopilly, Brisbane Description— The decor of this newly renovated turn of the century family home had to appear as if it had evolved over time. Traditional and modern furniture sit comfortably together, while robustness was a determining factor in many selections as the decor was required to support the activities of four children. PUSH were the architects for the extension and renovation of the home.
• FORTY PARK AVENUE
  Title— Forty Park Avenue Location— East Brisbane, Queensland Description— Forty Park Avenue was a collaboration between Coop and Jadecorp creating 5 unique penthouse style riverside apartments. The brief was for an interior of unsurpassed elegance with an attention to detail not before seen apartment developments. The palette and detail appeals to a sophisticated market, whilst being contemporary homes, the apartments have classic references allowing them to reflect the character of their owners. Awards— HIA - CSR (Brisbane and Toowoomba) Winner — 2009 Kitchen Designer of the Year HIA - CSR (Brisbane and Toowoomba) Finalist— 2009 Bathroom Designer of the Year
• KANGAROO POINT APARTMENT
  Title— Kangaroo Point Apartment Location— Kangaroo Point, Queensland Description— The penthouse apartment has been completely re-orientated and opened to maximise its views to the Gateway, Woolloongabba, CBD, Story Bridge and Beyond. The silver, grey and cream palette gives the apartment a warm yet glamorous experience.
• SUNSHINE BEACH APARTMENT
  Title— Sunshine Beach Apartment Location— Sunshine Beach, Queenlsand Description— Only 80 sqm the apartment has become a weekend retreat from a busy city life. Originally only two bedrooms and one bathroom on the lower level the new plan splits the occupation, having a bedroom on each floor and each with their own bathroom. Walls were demolished and views were opened up throughout to allow more light in and also to provide an illusion of space. Awards— DIA Qld (Silver) — 2009 Interior Decoration
• NORMAN HOUSE
  Title— Norman House Project Description— The mature sophisticated decor of this glamorous entry hall leads you to calm private spaces of generous proportion. Coop is currently undertaking an extension to this traditional Queensland home due to be completed in 2009. Location— Norman Park, Queensland
• LUKIN HOUSE
  Title— Lukin House Project Description— The creation of this home was in collaboration with Sarah Briant Architect from Quirk Architecture. The mid 20th century inspired interior creates spaces for display, maximises storage and is an energetic backdrop for three young children to live freely. Location— Clayfield, Queensland Awards— DIA (Qld) Winner — 2008 Refurbished Residential Design with Quirk Architecture Shortlisted - National Idea Awards - 2007
• PERCIVAL HOUSE
  Title— Percival House Project Description— Minor changes and additions were made to this petite 30’s bungalow. The entry was opened up to create a connection to the new rear verandah. The decorative palette is retained to create an interior to comfort and nurture the occupants’ busy professional lives. Location— Holland Park, Queensland
• CHELMER HOUSE
  Title— Chelmer House Project Description— The house encompasses the tastes, lifestyles and needs of a family that has five adult children living at home. The interior was approached as if it were a small hotel; creating individual suites rather than bedrooms with a series of indoor-outdoor communal spaces that embrace the edge of the Brisbane River. Coop worked with Push Architects to create this home. Location— Chelmer, Queensland Awards— Shortlisted - National Idea Awards 2007
• DORNOCH PENTHOUSE
  Title— Dornoch Penthouse Project Description— The late 70’s interior previously didn’t take advantage of the panoramic view of the Brisbane skyline. The interior planning was completely changed to maximise the generous length of the space of the apartment. The entry and public zones split the apartment to create two self contained private zones. With a warm palette to protect against the skyline glare, the decor combines classic and traditional detailing to create an elegant and timeless backdrop for the beautiful artwork in the apartment. Location— Highgate Hill, Queensland Awards— DIA Qld (Winner) — 2008 People’s Choice Award DIA Qld (Silver) — 2008 Interior Decoration
• CHESTER HOUSE
  Title— Chester House Project Description— The decor is the backdrop for a personal collection of beautiful objects. The richness in the new interior creates an inner sanctuary and provides refuge from a busy modern world Location— Brisbane
• NEW FARM TERRACE
  Title— New Farm Terrace Project Description— Built in the 80’s the interior and courtyard needed an overhaul. Over three levels the program changed to become a sequence of flexible public and private spaces. Sliding panels, screens, pivoting doors, white and acrylic contrasts were overlayed into the interior to reduce the domination of the existing brickwork throughout. Location— New Farm, Queensland Awards— 2007 National Design Awards - Shortlisted - Residential 2006 Design Institute of Australia - Qld Chapter - Winner - Refurbished Residential
• FIG TREE HOUSE
  Title— Fig Tree House Project Description— Walls were demolished to create a beautiful room that is now the heart of the house. The detailing, objects and colour palette transport the owners to another time and place. Location— Brisbane
• TIDE HOUSE
  Title— Tide House Project Description— The decor deliberately mixes pieces that sit comfortably against the clean modern backdrop of the architecture creating a house that has a sense of evolution. The home was designed by Mirvac. Location— Bulimba, Queensland
• MILTON APARTMENT
  Title— Milton Apartment Location— Milton, Brisbane Description— Originally a standard two bedroom apartment in an unremarkable cavity brick 70’s apartment block, the new interior opens up to create changable spaces with different levels of privacy. The planning sets up foreground and background vistas creating an internal landscape. Awards— 2001 - Belle Magazine - Apartment of the Year Award - Qld Finalist

COMMERCIAL

• THE BALFOUR HOTEL
  Title— The Balfour Hotel Location— New Farm, Queensland Description— The Spicers Balfour Hotel is a 9 room private hotel, situated in New Farm, Brisbane.
• SAGE ON ANN
  Title— Sage on Ann Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— Our client was a very experienced restaurateur who wanted a specific look for his most recent venture Sage, an upmarket urban café. Highly finished materials were used alongside a vintage wallpaper to give the space its very own personality.
• QUEEN STREET DENTAL
  Title— Queen Street Dental Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— Queen St Dental is a second generation practice with an existing quality fit out completed in the mid 80’s. The scope was to update the space and services to meet current needs as well giving it a new individual and contemporary look.
• LEGAL CHAMBERS
  Title— Legal Chambers Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— Coop was engages to personalise this legal chambers to reflect the clients sophisticated taste and chic style. The space has a tailored approach that could easily be mistaken for a fashion executive’s office.
• LEGAL CHAMBERS 2
  Title— Legal Chambers 2 Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Project Description— The design of legal chambers are often burdened by the weight of tradition dictating a particular aesthetic. These rooms respect formality and have all the elements of traditional rooms but also confidently reflect a contemporary influence.
• LEGAL CHAMBERS 3
  Title— Legal Chambers 3 Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— This legal chamber respects tradition and formality, but also reflects a contemporary influence through the use of modern furniture and textiles.
• LEGAL CHAMBERS 4
  Title— Legal Chambers 4 Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— The barrister’s reception required a face lift and upgrade of furniture. A vintage Fornasetti wallpaper of Roman City was used to add imagery and movement.
• LEGAL CHAMBERS 5
  Title— Legal Chambers 5 Location— Brisbane CBD, Queensland Description— This contemporary barrister chamber references elements of the traditional legal office. The design intention was to create a comfortable and domestic feel to the space as the client works long hours. Glimpses of colour and pattern help to soften and personalise the space.
• LUMEN-8 SHOWROOM
  Title— Lumen-8 Showroom Location— Arthur Street, New Farm, Queensland Description— A limited palette was used to direct the focus to the product in this lighting showroom. We approached this project much like an exhibiting tradeshow, by creating an insertion into an existing space, free from the perimeter structure. The pod structure allowed us to create divisions in the space for different lighting products.
• FINANCIAL PLANNERS OFFICE
  Title— Financial Planners Office Location— Milton, Brisbane Description— This unique office is home to a financial business the palate creates a visual feast that stops traffic. The confidant interior is a reflection of the client and a strong business. Colour and pattern is used to enhance the scale of the space creating a statement interior unlike any other.
• MOVEMENT SOLUTIONS
  Title— Movement Solutions Location— Holland Park, Queensland Description— The brief was to create a cheerful space where children undergoing rehabilitation and their families could feel comfortable and at ease. The design intent was to create a space that the client and her patients could personalise and interact with. Basic materials were used in an innovative way, to create a crafted aesthetic on a modest budget.
• DESIGNER RUGS SHOWROOM
  Title— Designer Rugs Showroom Location— Wickham St, Fortitude Valley, Queensland Description— The brief was to transform an old warehouse to create a showroom with strong connection to the street, as the open plan warehouse lacked a sense of entry and character. The design features a series of angled walls to control views, direct people through the showroom and separate reception, display and private staff spaces. The design of the showroom was approached much like a gallery, by keeping the shell and insertions white, the vibrant colour in the rugs is emphasised and form the feature.
• INGREDIENTS DELI
  Title— Ingredients Deli Project Description— The Deli is on a difficult triangle shaped site directly opposite Coles. Traditional Deli planning is challenged & the customer is encouraged to move throughout the shop as if working in a large kitchen pantry. The lines of front and back of counter are ambiguous. Location— Kenmore, Queensland Awards— DIA (Qld) Winner — 2008 Retail Design 2007 National Idea Awards Shortlist - Retail
• THE TEA CENTRE
  Title— The Tea Centre Location— Ferry Road Markets, Southport, Queensland Description— Located in the popular Ferry Road Markets at Southport, the Tea Centre is a national chain of tea retail stores. The design of the Ferry Road store had to blend with the market style architecture therefore a traditional tea room aesthetic was not sutiable. The challenge was to reduce the height of the ceiling to ensure the delicate tea cups and pots were not dwarfed by the volume of the space. The yellow and brown palette are the Tea Centres’ corporate colours.
• HYDE ROAD
  Title— Hyde Road Project Description— The 1960’s building was given a complete face lift with the new mixed tenancies selected to attract surrounding residents in this growing inner city suburb. Location— Yeronga, Queensland
• ELIZA’S BAR
  Title— Eliza’s Bar Location— Sanctuary Cove, Queensland Project Description— The Bar is located on the edge of the Marina at Sanctuary Cove and is the public face of the villages’ 22 gaming machines. Its’ small size and so much glass dictated an unconventional approach to the planning. The patrons turn their back on the bar and look out to the view whilst the service area is more open ended; the decor remembers the domestic bar of the 1970’s.
• COOP STUDIO
  Title— Coop Studio Project Description— Situated in a pretty 1950’s warehouse, the interior of the Coop Office reflects the Studio’s confidence in managing bijoux residential and commercial projects. Location— Newstead, Queensland Awards— 2007 RAIA Queensland Commendation 2007 RAIA Brisbane Regional Commendation 2007 Design Institute of Australia - Qld Chapter - Ultimate People’s Choice Award 2007 National Idea Awards - Corporate - Shortlisted 2007 National Design Awards - Colour Commercial -shortlisted 2006 Design Institute of Australia - Qld Chapter - Winner - Decoration 2006 Design Institute of Australia - Qld Chapter - Highly Commended - Best use of Colour
• STEPHEN HART STUDIO
  Title— Stephen Hart’s Studio Project Description— The Sculptor Stephen Hart’s new studio is an aesthetic and functional response to a very abstract brief. Coop treaded lightly so as to not take away from the beauty that is found in the production of beautiful artwork in the studio. Location— Newstead, Queensland Awards— 2007 - RAIA Qld Chapter - Commendation 2007 - RAIA Qld Chapter - Brisbane Regional Commendation 2007 - National Idea Awards - Corporate - Shortlisted
• SANCTUARY COVE
  Title— Sanctuary Cove Head Office and Sales Centre Location— Sanctuary Cove, Queensland Project Description— The sales centre is the new public face of the Sanctuary Cove executive office and their Sales Centre. Located within Cox Rayner building at the entrance to the shopping precnct, the new streamlined, relaxed and light filled tenancy reflects the new generation of Sanctuary Cove residents.
• MASTHEAD DELI & BAKERY
  Title— Masthead Deli, Bakery and Restaurant Location— Sanctuary Cove, Queensland Description— The brief was to create a destination amongst their new precinct that would become a meeting place for residents and guests to the village. Patrons can enjoy coffee on the side walk, pick up fresh baked bread and enjoy a glass of wine in the evening whilst taking in the marina views.

FURNITURE

• T3 TABLE
  Title— T3 Table Product Description— The design of the T3 table was in response to our inability to find a flexible side coffee table product for a site specific project. The 3 elements sit together to create a large table or can separate to act as stools or side tables depending on the activities of the space. Awards— 2007 - National Idea Awards - Product Design - Shortlisted
• LOIS AND NEVILLE
  Title— Lois and Neville Product Description— A suite of bedroom furniture made from solid plantation grown teak.
